Worst Picture Ever
I got so excited about this contest.
Mark and I were driving to the bookstore to return Andrew's failed Christmas book (he'd already read Junot Diaz's latest) and to get a new read for our trip (settled on Lahiri's latest paperback). On trusty NPR, Guy Raz introduced the guest author & lit critic who described the premise of their latest literary contest: write a story that can be told in three minutes (approximately 550-600 words) describing the picture they had posted on the website. They proceeded to describe the picture, which I felt was a little unhelpful (planting descriptive words into what should be a nation of blank slate minds), but still exciting.
"Inside a cafe, or lobby, we see a table with an open newspaper on it, it's upside down, we have to strain ourselves to see if we can make out any type in it, there's a pedesrian outside, walking past thsi table with the newspaper. . . a lot of spaces that you have to invent things to fill in."
After the book store, pharmacy and groceries, we arrive home. I take of my shoes, put the laptop on the kitchen table and find the photo:

In a perfect world, I would know how to post pics on this blog and the pic wouldn't be so crappy.
I am decidedly less inspired, however still determined. Stay tuned for greatness.
